State Debate Rages On
December 2007 | Ratings UpdateIn late October, the House Natural Resources Committee of the US Congress voted in favour of legislation to provide for a federally sanctioned process of self-determination for Puerto Rico. The governor of Puerto Rico, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá has opposed the Act, accusing the original text of favouring independence or statehood over the current Commonwealth arrangement by combining the first two options into one category subject to a second round of voting.
