Trade Wheels In Motion

Following the electorate's approval of the DR-CAFTA trade deal in a referendum in October, the political wheels are in motion to bring the country fully into compliance with the conditions of the pact. On November 27, the national legislature passed the first of 12 implementation bills associated with DR-CAFTA, dealing with a new regulatory framework for foreign companies. We see the passage of the remaining bills by the March 1 2008 deadline as virtually assured, but we will be paying attention to the situation because any delays would be harmful to the political
