Foreign Investment Continues Apace

According to central bank data, inflows to Brazil in the form of foreign direct investment (FDI) continue to surprise on the upside. In September, FDI inflows came in at US$1.5bn, bringing the year-to-date figure to a record US$28bn. This figure is almost a three-fold increase from the US11bn registered during the same period in 2006, and has already exceeded 2006's full-year result of US$18bn. Given Brazil's ever improving fundamentals, we expect it to remain an attractive destination for FDI flows, and as such we expect this trend to persist over the next several months.
