October 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe International Court of Justice has ended a long-running dispute between Nicaragua and Honduras over a maritime boundary. On October 8, the court ruled that Honduras had sovereignty over four islands in the Caribbean that it had claimed jurisdiction over, while Nicaragua received a wider range of coastal territory. Part of the significance of the dispute was the potential for oil and gas reserves in the area. With both sides embracing the decision as a victory, we believe that the stage is set for an easing of diplomatic tensions between the two
