With the second round of the presidential elections looming, our short-term political risk ratings remain slightly depressed, at 66.0. With the first round of the election having elicited the most violent behaviour yet seen in a Guatemalan campaign, with dozens murdered for their political stances or affiliations with candidates, there is of course concern that there could be more of the same in the second round. The slaying of frontrunner Otto Perez Molina's secretary and bodyguard on October 8 was not a promising
