October 2007 | Ratings UpdateNewly-appointed Prime Minister Bruce Golding has invited the opposition People's National Party (PNP) to put forward its members to chair at least six select committees of parliament. The government has also taken steps to allow every Member of Parliament the right to make statements in house of representatives. Both these moves make good on one of the premier's key electoral pledges; to strengthen the role of the opposition in parliament. We are hopeful that greater co-operation between Jamaica's two dominant political parties could induce a greater level of policy enactment and formation.
