The ongoing investigation concerning the president of the senate's (Renan Calheiros) involvement in a corruption scandal is expected to enter its final stages. The senate will have a closed vote on September 12 to determine whether Calheiros' position as president of the senate will be annulled. Indeed, Calheiros had already been brought before the Council of Ethics, which then recommended his impeachment (with 11 votes in favour of his resignation against 4 votes absolving him).
