September 2007 | Ratings UpdateTwo of the country's main political parties, the Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC) and the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), have called for more state funds to be spent on education. This sentiment echoed previous grievances made by the local business community, which blamed a low level of state investment in education for a lack of top quality staff in the domestic labour market. As a percentage of GDP, Dominican government expenditure in this sector is low compared to regional peers - it spends only 1.1% of GDP on education, compared to 5.3% in Jamaica - a factor which inhibits both
