Elections Remain Key
September 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe forthcoming elections for the Constituent Assembly set for September 30, and its installation a month later on October 31, will dominate political news over the next few months. Furthermore, given that President Rafael Correa's popularity has continued to slip over the past few months, it seems unlikely that his camp will win a huge majority of seats. At 56%, his popularity has declined significantly from the 73% recorded in January. Should the opposition make important advances in the Constituent Assembly, this could lead to a political stalemate.
