New Government, Same Objectives

August 2007 | Risk Summary

In line with the view we promoted prior to the May elections, there has not been a significant shift in policy initiatives under the new government of Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham. The Bahamian electorate voted to reinstate Ingraham as prime minister on May 2, marking an end to the Free National Movement (FNM)'s five-year absence from power. The FNM won 23 out of a possible 41 seats in the House of Assembly. The first real test for the government will be when the House of Assembly meets in October, when the government will introduce a full legislative agenda for 2008.
