The domestic political environment remains rather unsteady in St Lucia, as it becomes increasingly likely that Prime Minister Sir John Compton will not return to office, following a series of mild strokes. Acting PM Stephenson King has hinted that Compton would not be able return to office, prompting opposition leader Dr Kenny Anthony to call for fresh elections. On top of this, former Foreign Minister Rufus Bousquet has argued that the ruling United Workers Party (UWP) convention in October should be used to elect a new leader. Meanwhile, the cabinet is also under pressure from opposition groups over alleged corruption
