Zelaya Denies Re-election Bid
July 2007 | Risk SummaryPresident Manuel Zelaya has denied allegations made by opposition leader Porfirio Lobo Sosa, who said that Zeyala was plotting to change the constitution to allow him to stay in power indefinitely. The president's mandate ends in 2010, and Sosa, who leads the Partido Nacional argues that the daily problems which face Honduras could easily be resolved, but are a way of preoccupying the population so Zelaya can remain in power. This dispute notwithstanding, we see Honduras as a relatively low political-risk country, a view that is reflected in our 77.9 short-term political risk
