The Regional Benchmark

July 2007 | Risk Summary

Barbados remains one of the most politically stable countries in the region, with short-term and long-term economic risk ratings reading 80.0 and 80.3 respectively. With the next elections not expected to be until next year (although still no date has been set), we do not foresee any major changes ahead to the Barbadian political scene until then. While we expect the strong short-term risk rating to decline slightly when an election date is announced and the vote approaches, the enduring popularity of the incumbent Barbados Labour Party (BLP) leads us to believe that policy continuity is likely.
