Macroeconomic Forecast Dominican Republic
June 2007 | Macroeconomic ForecastsBMI View: Total reserves excluding gold ticked up to a record high of US$2.4bn in March. The country has come a long way since the financial crisis in 2003, at which point reserves plummeted to just US$220.28mn, and we expect to see reserve accumulation continue over the forecast period. Indeed, with our end-2007 target of US$2.5bn in already in sight, the risks are leaning to the upside. The reserve position translates into an import cover of approximately 2.8 months. We expect this figure to edge up towards 3.4 months by 2011.
