The first major electoral contest of the year has gone against the Kirchner administration, as its candidate for Buenos Aires Mayor, Daniel Filmus, lost convincingly to opposition contender Mauricio Macri on June 3. While a run off will be required on June 24, Macri has a 22 percentage point advantage, and despite having the backing of the national government, we do not see Filmus winning enough votes to emerge victorious.
