Saca's Fourth Year Begins

President Tony Saca, who entered office on 1 June 2004, kicked off the fourth year of his term by announcing a package of new social programmes - perhaps in an attempt to win back the favour of the people. Despite an improving macroeconomic performance of late, public opinion polls show widespread dissatisfaction with Saca (70.5% of El Salvadoreans do not believe he is doing an adequate job, according to a survey conducted in May).
