Elections Pose Only Minor Risk
May 2007 | Ratings UpdateTrinidad scores 80.0 for its short term political risk under BMI's newly upgraded ratings system. The near-term outlook is affected by the upcoming elections, due by Q407, but with a very minor risk of major policy changes under a new administration the overall risks are minimal. The long-term score of 65.3 is based on Trinidad's stable democracy and strong polity continuity. While society is divided along ethnic and religious lines, which gives rise to tensions between the two main political parties, civil strife among the population is very rare.
