We have implemented our new structural- and short-term political risk ratings, and have seen a slight improvement in Ecuador's ratings. The country's short-term political ratings rose from 51.0 to 62.5, placing it alongside Guatemala, while it's long-term (or structural) political ratings rose from 43.6 to 56.0, which is similar to El Salvador's ratings. Weighing heavily on the score is Ecuador's lack of policy continuity and a weak separation of powers, best illustrated by the recent political events surrounding the firing of 57 opposition deputies from congress.
