May 2007 | Ratings UpdateMexico scores a healthy 75.6 in our recently-revised short-term political ratings, placing the country some way above the regional average of 72.9. This score vindicates the increasingly optimistic line we have taken on domestic politics, and the outlook for reform, since the inauguration of President Felipe Calderón back in December last year. There is room for improvement, however. The rating is weighed down by enduring drug-related gang violence in the peripheral regions of the country, as well as the recent memories of public unrest across the country following July's highly-charged presidential elections.
