May 2007 | Ratings UpdateCosta Rica's political risk ratings under our new methodology put the country firmly at the top of the table in Central America. The new short-term rating of 81.5 is among the highest globally, and is held back only by fairly high inflation (a proxy for potential unrest) and the possibility of public dissatisfaction with regards to the DR-CAFTA trade pact. Meanwhile, Costa Rica's new long-term rating, at 76.8, is easily the highest in the region, and is supported by the country's fairly stable democratic framework, especially in comparison to some of its Central American peers.
