May 2007 | Macroeconomic ForecastsBMI View: Preliminary indications suggest that the Costa Rican economy has picked up where it left off in 2006. The IMAE economic activity indicator showed growth of 7.6% y-o-y in January, similar to the figures seen over the previous six months, and an improvement from 6.8% in January 2006. While we envisage an economic deceleration this year, with real GDP growth of 5.0% (down from 7.8% in 2006), sustained high IMAE readings could lead us to revise our projections to the upside.
