BMI View: The Banco Central de Nicaragua released its annual debt report for 2006 in April, highlighting the US$820.8mn fall in the country's public external debt load last year, thanks mainly to multilateral and bilateral relief initiatives. More relief is on the way: in December 2006, the Inter-American Development Bank approved the forgiveness of US$984mn in Nicaragua's debt, which had been due to be paid back between 2007-2044. The pact should be formalised in 2007, hence our projection that Nicaraguan external debt will fall from US$4.52bn to US$3.50bn by the end of this
