Guatemala enters our new political ratings system in last place in Central America with a 66.0 short-term score. This is due in large part to uncertainty ahead of this year's elections, so we expect to see the country's score rise following the conclusion of the polls. The long-term rating (a very low 43.8) is constrained by high levels of poverty and income inequality, as well as one of the world's lowest ratings in the 'rule of law'
