ECONOMIC RISK - IDB Votes To Ease Debt Burden
April 2007 | Risk SummaryThe Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) agreed at the end of March to forgive US$4.4bn in debt owed by Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua in order to improve living standards in the region's poorest countries. Specifically, Haiti is in line to receive US$20mn in debt relief over the next two years, and will eventually qualify for US$0.5bn in relief by 2009. Honduras, Bolivia and Nicaragua will be relieved of US$1.4bn, US$1.0bn and US$1.0bn respectively under the proposed scheme.
