In the latest twist on the ever-shifting 2007 electoral timetable, Prime Minister Patrick Manning has suggested he may seek cabinet support to postpone again the upcoming local elections (scheduled for July), until 2008. The polls have been delayed since August 2006 to allow for the implementation of local government reforms. Putting off the local elections would give Manning a clear run to the general election, due by year-end, and prevent poll fatigue among the electorate. Either way, the ruling People's National Movement (MNC) party is likely to win another term in office, largely thanks to a lack of convincing opposition
