January 2007 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: The World Court's dismissal of Uruguay's request to remove Argentine protestors blocking certain border roads throws the dispute back to a bilateral level for the time being. With key Argentine elections coming up, a resolution to the stand-off seems unlikely, as both sides will probably stall until The Hague delivers a final ruling on the matter. The loss of the controversial pulp mills would be a major setback for the Uruguayan economy, though we still consider this an extreme scenario.
