February 2007 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: A controversial new bill paving the way for licensed gambling in newly-constructed hotels and resorts has been passed by the government, despite vociferous protests from the opposition and religious groups within the country. While casino gaming should provide some economic benefits, particularly in the vital tourism industry, it is as yet uncertain whether the government is able to regulate and monitor it effectively, sparking concerns over the possible spread of organised crime.
