UN To Stay On?
January 2007 | Risk SummaryA recent UN report has recommended the extension of the organisation's mission in Haiti for at least a further 12 months. The report, undertaken by former secretary-general Kofi Annan, cited the significant challenges ahead for the country's new government as the driving factor behind its recommendation. In particular, it brought attention to the government's lack of a necessary comprehensive security infrastructure to effectively police the country and exposure to mass criminal activity.
