Ex-Governor Cleared

Former Commonwealth Governor Pedro Rossello has been cleared of misconduct charges, because of a lack of evidence. Rossello had been accused of falsifying documentation in order to acquire a higher pension. Throughout the trial, Rossello has remained president of the opposition New Progressive Party (NPP). In our view, the events have damaged public confidence in the Puerto Rican political system. An appeal has been launched and a hearing set for January 24. Meanwhile, Rossello has stated that he may also consider filing suit against the government.
