Chavez Wins Re-election
December 2006 | Market StrategyIn line with our expectations, Chavez won the December 3 presidential elections. According to the National Electoral Council, Chavez won 62.89% of the vote, while his opponent, Manuel Rosales, achieved 36.85%. Rosales acknowledged Chavez's victory, but reiterated that he will continue his battle for democracy in opposition. Voter turnout was apparently higher than initially anticipated, with the abstention rate estimated at roughly 25.0%, which coincides with surveys conducted on the eve of the elections.
