Poll Reveals Public Concerns

December 2006 | Ratings Update

According to a recent poll carried out by Gallup, the public remains concerned about the country's financial situation, despite the recovery in economic growth in 2006. The 1,200 Dominican adults surveyed cited inflation (68%), the energy crisis (65%) and unemployment (43%) as the main problems facing the country today. Despite these grievances, Leonel Fernandez is still a slight favourite to continue as president for another term. A separate poll conducted by SIGNA found that 50% of those polled would favour a Fernandez re-election, whereas 48% were against this notion.
