Trade Deficit Still A Problem
November 2006 | Market StrategyGuatemala's merchandise trade deficit came in at US$1.4bn in Q306, increasing by 12.5% y-o-y (down from a 23.1% y-o-y increase in Q305). Exports rose by 21.6% y-o-y in Q306 (up from 3.6% y-o-y in Q305) and 8.7% y-o-y during the first nine months of 2006 (down from 9.7% y-o-y during the same period in 2005). Q306's exports experienced the fastest growth rates since 2002 and was mainly driven by sugar and coffee exports, which expanded by 39.7% y-o-y and 29.6% y-o-y respectively.
