The President of Congress, Enrique Gonzales, stressed that the military cooperation between Bolivia and Venezuela signed on 26 May 2006, which includes the construction of several military bases in Bolivia along the Paraguayan border, constitutes a significant threat to Paraguay's national security. In his opinion, given that Bolivia has not yet given up its ambition to invade the Chaco region, the government's increasingly hostile attitude towards the US troops training in Paraguay is a major weakness in the administration's current foreign policy, leaving the country potentially unprotected against Bolivian aggression.
