Fiscal Deficit Still A Problem
October 2006 | Market StrategyGuyana's nominal fiscal surplus came in at GYD2.3bn (US$12.0mn) in Q106, the second largest quarterly surplus since Q204. While government revenues increased by 22.4% y-o-y in Q106 (up from 6.9% in Q105), expenditure only rose by 13.5% y-o-y (down from 21.7 y-o-y in Q105). Despite the positive result in the first quarter of 2006, the country has a history of running large fiscal deficits (see Chart 1).
