Little Trouble With Big China?

China has announced that it wishes to improve diplomatic relations with Costa Rica. Current ties between the two countries are strained, as Costa Rica is one of 24 countries worldwide which maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan. It is true that trade between Costa Rica and China has increased, as exports to China over the January-to-July period jumped by 91.8% y-o-y (up from 21.7% y-o-y for the same time period in 2005). Yet exports to China only constituted 0.003% of Costa Rica's total exports for the first seven months of the year. Consequently, a potential deterioration of diplomatic relations over Taiwan
