Election Brings Promise, But Problems Remain
August 2006 | Market AlertWith 75% of all votes counted, the People's Progressive Party (PPP) led by current President Bharrat Jagdeo has a very good chance of winning Guyana's general election held earlier this week. Although the PPP currently enjoys a significant lead of more than 70,000 votes (roughly 17% of all votes cast), the main opposition party, the People's National Congress (PNC), has so far refused to concede defeat.
