September 2006 | Macroeconomic ForecastsBMI View: Fuel consumption rose almost 5% in H106 compared to H105, despite a price rise of between 17% and 18% for gasoline at the petrol pumps in the first six months of the year. This contributed to 7% year-on-year rise in inflation in July. Meanwhile, remittances from Guatemalans in the US rose by 21% y-o-y between January and July 2006. Guatemalan authorities expect remittances to exceed US$3.4bn by the end of the year, the second largest foreign source of revenue after exports.
