Macroeconomic Forecast Honduras

September 2006 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

BMI View: Honduras has already negotiated some US$1.8bn in debt relief with the members of the Paris Club of lenders, of a total external debt of around US$4.4bn. A pardoning of another US$1.1bn of debt with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is expected to be close to completion. A reduction in its debt servicing bill will not only allow for greater investment in social programmes - allowing Honduras to fulfil requirements placed in its agreement with the IMF - but also should pave the way for higher sustained growth.
