DR-CAFTA Delay
July 2006 | Ratings UpdateThe Dominican Republic will not be ready to join the DR-CAFTA treaty in July as originally planned. The free trade agreement between the Dominican Republic, 5 central American countries and the US was due to talk effect on January 1. However, several countries have faced delays due to difficulties in passing the legislation needed to implement the deal. The government of the Dominican Republic now hopes to be ready for DR-CAFTA by August.
