The official start date of the DR-CAFTA agreement may be postponed, according to rumours circulating in the Central American press. Salvadoran, Costa Rican and Nicaraguan newspapers have all fuelled speculation that the US government may postpone the treaty until at least April 2006 because the legislation that the agreement requires is not yet fully in place. Salvadoran newspapers report that Economy Minister Yolanda de Gavidia has said she has no knowledge of this decision, but the Nicaraguan El Nuevo Diario and the Costa Rican Capital Financiero say that the official announcement of the date change is to be made on
