Canal Project Under Debate
July 2006 | Political Risk AnalysisThe planned expansion of the Panama canal is on its way through the legislature, where the government of president Martin Torrijos has a comfortable majority. On the request of the congressional commission studying the document, the government made several changes to the original document presented by the canal authority before sending it back to the legislators. The modifications included clarification over the costs of the project and the part that the state would be required to raise, and a clause binding the Autoridad del canal de Panama, ACP, to meet the costs of building a car bridge at the side
