Hondurans Slow On Immigration Take-Up
June 2006 | Ratings UpdateLess than half the 81,000 Hondurans in the US deemed eligible for temporary protection status (TPS) have applied. TPS affords them semi-legal status for a limited period of time. Immigration was one of the issues touched upon by president Zelaya as he toured Washington at the beginning of June, a visit which included a meeting with President George W Bush. The reason appears to be that they are awaiting the outcome of the current debates in the US congress over a more permanent immigration law.
