June 2006 | Political Risk AnalysisAs ever, one of the toughest foreign policy nuts to crack remains Chile's troubled relations with its northern Andean neighbours. Regaining land lost to Chile during a 19th century post-colonial war is still an emotive political issue in both Bolivia and Peru. President Michelle Bachelet's expressed desire to improve relations with these countries can only be considered within the context of addressing these irredentist aspirations.
