External Accounts On Shaky Footing In The Short Term

Guyana's current account shortfall will remain substantial in the next few years, and given volatile capital account flows we do not rule out that the central bank will need to dip into its reserves or seek external financing in order to fund the deficit. That said, given increasing investor interest in the mining and hydrocarbons sectors we are cautiously optimistic that capital account flows could begin to stabilize, suggesting potential for greater external account stability in the long term.
