T&T's Police Commissioner, Dwayne Gibbs, and Deputy Police Commissioner, Jack Ewatski, tendered their resignations in late July. While Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissesar's government has not provided an explanation for the officials' departures, the Police Services Commission has come under intense scrutiny in recent months as crime levels remain elevated. Given Gibbs and Ewatski's resignations and the appointment of former Public Works Minister Jack Warner to the top national security post in late June, we expect the national security administration to play an increasingly important role in domestic security policy over the coming quarters.
