Mexico responded with disappointment to a recent US Supreme Court decision which upheld part of Arizona's controversial immigration law, requiring police to check the status of anyone they believe to be in the country illegally. The Mexican government has been opposed the law since it was passed in 2010, noting that it could result in civil rights violations of any Mexicans residing or visiting the state, and that such legislation leads to misunderstandings between the US and Mexico. Shortly after the passage of the law, the Mexican government issued a travel warning to all Mexican nationals regarding travel within the state of Arizona.
