Policymaking Deadlock To Hinder Reform

BMI View: After Guatemala's Partido Patriota-controlled legislature managed to successfully pass a number of reforms within the first two months of 2012, a more unified opposition party indicates an increased likelihood of prolonged congressional deadlock in the coming months. This suggests that, as with his predecessor, recently elected President Otto Pérez Molina will struggle to implement his agenda.
