T&T's Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar reinforced her government's commitment to poverty eradication at a United Nations meeting in late May. The PM highlighted the recent establishment of a Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child Development, as well as a national youth policy, which are focused on furthering youth empowerment and economic involvement. Persad-Bissessar also noted that her policy agenda includes a number of micro-finance initiatives aimed at increasing employment opportunities and social development. Sustained efforts to reduce poverty and increase social inclusion should favourably impact the country's political risk ratings over the coming years.
