Members of the Zetas, one of Mexico's largest drug cartels, airdropped thousands of leaflets on a small northern city, accusing the governor of taking orders from infamous drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, head of the rival Sinaloa cartel. Specifically, the leaflet reported that the death of a suspected Zeta gang member while in custody was the result of orders from Guzman. While in the past, the cartels have posted internet videos or hung banners from bridges, this represents the first time that members of a cartel attempted to market their message to non-cartels members in such a wide-spread fashion.
