Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's domestic political challenges look set to continue over the coming months, following the approval of a controversial new forestry law by the Chamber of Deputies, the National Congress's lower house, in late April. The law will ease rules mandating the amount of forest farmers must keep on their land, allow hillsides and riverbanks previously exempt from cultivation to be developed and provide amnesty from fines for illegal clearing before July 2008.
